Relocation
Relocation answers what a move abroad would change for your dividends and taxes, before you go. It is part of Pro.
Your move
Relocation (/relocation) starts from a plan: the country you are moving to, the date and your notes. You can remove the plan at any time; rates you set for that country stay in the residence scenarios on Tax and domicile.
Now and after the move
The comparison shows Dividends kept a year, after the move, then US withholding, Dividend tax at home and Capital gains tax for your current residence and the destination, side by side. You can compare any other country without saving it, and make it your destination if you choose. The change in dividends kept is also shown account by account. Where a move cannot be modelled, the figure is shown as “—” with the reason.
Before you go
A checklist of what to look into, which you can tick off as you review each point: leaving your current country (exit tax, or being taxed for a while afterwards), pensions and tax-advantaged accounts, renewing your W-8BEN and updating your tax residence with each broker, and estate and inheritance rules in the new country.
Assumptions
Rates are a resident individual’s top or flat rate unless you set your own, and US withholding assumes a W-8BEN on file. Figures are converted at today’s exchange rates. It is a screening estimate, not tax advice: check the rules for both countries with a qualified adviser before you move.
