Billing & Refund Policy
Last updated: August 31, 2026
1. What you are paying for
BorderFolio Pro is a subscription to a software service, billed monthly or annually. The Free plan costs nothing, involves no card and is never subject to a charge or a refund — so nothing on this page applies to it. What each plan includes is on the pricing page.
2. Your first purchase: 14 days, no reason needed
If you are not happy with Pro, you can have your initial subscription purchase refunded in full, provided you ask within 14 calendar days of the charge. You do not have to explain why. This applies once per account.
The 14 days run from the date of the charge, not from the day you first signed in — import a statement early rather than late if you want the tax and domicile layer to inform your decision.
3. Renewals and periods already under way
A renewal — the monthly or annual charge that continues an existing subscription — is not refundable, and neither is the unused remainder of a billing period you have already started. Two things follow from that, and they are worth keeping apart:
- Cancelling stops future charges. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for, and are not billed again.
- A refund reverses a charge that has already been taken. Outside the first 14 days, that only happens in the cases in section 4.
You can cancel at any time before the renewal date from the billing section of your account. Cancelling the day after a renewal does not undo that renewal.
4. When we refund regardless of the 14 days
The limits above do not apply to any of the following, at any point in your subscription:
- Duplicate charge — the same period was billed more than once.
- Billing error — the wrong amount, the wrong plan, or a charge taken after a cancellation had already taken effect.
- Material technical failure — a fault on our side that prevented you from using Pro for a meaningful part of a period you had paid for, and that we were unable to put right.
- Where the law requires it — nothing in this policy limits any statutory right you have under the consumer law of your own country, including any right of withdrawal. Where a mandatory legal right gives you more than this policy does, the law wins.
Note that inaccurate or delayed market data, and tax or withholding figures that differ from your own calculations, are not technical failures — those figures are estimates, and the Investment & Tax Disclaimer explains their limits.
5. How to request a refund
Email admin@borderfolio.app and include:
- the email address you used at checkout; and
- your Freemius order reference — it is on the receipt Freemius emailed you, and in the billing section of your account.
If you are asking under section 4, one or two lines describing what happened is enough. We aim to reply within 3 business days.
The order reference is what lets us find the right charge without asking you for card details. We will never ask you for a full card number, and you should not send one.
6. How the money comes back
An approved refund is issued by Freemius to the original payment method. That is the only destination available — a refund cannot be redirected to a different card, account or wallet, and we cannot issue it as credit instead.
Allow up to 10 business days for the refund to be processed. After that, your bank or card issuer controls when it appears; depending on the issuer this can take another one to two billing cycles.
7. What happens to your account
A refunded subscription ends, and the account returns to the Free plan with its normal limits. Your imported portfolios, contributions and history are not deleted by a refund — deleting your account and its data is a separate action, described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Before filing a chargeback
Please email us first. If a refund is due under this policy you will get it, and usually faster than a card dispute resolves. Raising a chargeback without contacting us tends to be the slowest route to the same outcome.
